Weighted Average Calculator
Enter one value and its weight per line, for example "85, 3" for a mark of 85 in a 3-credit course.
How a weighted average works
Some values count more than others. A weighted average multiplies each value by its weight, adds the results, and divides by the total weight: Σ(value × weight) ÷ Σ(weight). For the example: (85×3 + 72×4 + 90×2 + 65×1) ÷ 10 = 78.8, while the simple average is 78.
Common uses
- Grades: course marks weighted by credit hours, or final marks where the exam counts 60% and coursework 40% (enter weights 60 and 40).
- Average price: buying 100 units at 50 and 300 at 45 gives an average cost of 46.25, not 47.5.
- Index and survey scores: responses weighted by group size.
Weights don't have to add up to 100 or 1. Only their relative sizes matter. For GPA on a 4.0 scale, the CGPA Calculator has a grade table built in.
