Day of the Week Calculator
Pick any date to see which day of the week it falls on.
How it works
The calculator uses the Gregorian calendar (the one used today) for every date, including dates before it was adopted, as historians and most software do. 14 August 1947 was a Thursday, and 23 March 1940 was a Saturday.
Also shown
- Day of the year — 1 to 365, or 366 in a leap year.
- ISO week number — weeks start on Monday and week 1 contains the first Thursday of the year, the standard used in business and planning.
- Days from today — handy for countdowns and deadlines.
Doing it in your head
Mathematicians use Zeller's congruence or John Conway's "Doomsday" rule: certain easy dates (4/4, 6/6, 8/8, 10/10, 12/12) always share the same weekday in any year. For the number of days between two dates, use the Date Difference Calculator; for Islamic dates, use the Hijri Date Converter.
