About Discount Calculator
Work out the sale price after a discount and how much you save — useful when shopping, comparing offers or pricing your own products. It runs in your browser.
The formula
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). An item at 2,500 with 20% off costs 2,500 × 0.8 = 2,000, and you save 500.
Stacked discounts don't add up
"20% off, plus an extra 10% at checkout" is not 30% off. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 2,500 → 2,000 → 1,800, a total saving of 28%. Stacked offers are sometimes advertised in a way that suggests more than they give.
Comparing offers
"Buy 2, get 1 free" on three items is a 33% saving per item — but only if you actually need three. A flat amount off, such as 500 off a 2,500 item, is the same as 20%. Converting each offer to a final price makes them easy to compare.
Before or after tax
Check whether the advertised price includes sales tax. A discount on the price before tax and one on the final total can give slightly different amounts.
Working backwards
If you know the sale price and the percentage, divide to find the original: 2,000 ÷ 0.8 = 2,500. This is handy for checking that a "was" price on a sale tag adds up.
