About Stopwatch
A simple online stopwatch for timing anything from a workout set to a presentation rehearsal — start, pause, record laps and reset, right in your browser.
Laps and splits
A lap marks the time of one segment while the clock keeps running. Timing a 4-lap run, for example, shows whether you slowed down in the last lap. Some stopwatches show the time for each lap, others the running total at each press — both answer the same question from different directions.
Good uses
Exercise intervals and rest periods, practising a speech or interview answer to fit a time limit, timing how long a task really takes at work, cooking, and quick classroom activities. Teachers often use it on a projector so the whole class can see the time.
Getting accurate results
For everyday timing the stopwatch is more than precise enough, but human reaction time adds about a fifth of a second at each press, so very short measurements are less exact than they look. Keep the tab open while the stopwatch is running: refreshing or closing the page usually resets it, and some phones pause activity in the background to save battery.
When a stopwatch isn't the right tool
If you need to count down to zero — for an exam or a cooking time — use the Countdown Timer instead. To see the time in another city, use the World Clock.
