Pet Age Calculator
Choose your pet, its size and age to see its age in human years.
Not just "times seven"
The old rule of seven human years per pet year is too simple. Dogs and cats grow up very fast: by their first birthday they are roughly like a 15-year-old, and by two like a 24-year-old. After that each year counts as about 4 human years for cats and small dogs, and up to 6–7 for large and giant breeds, which age faster and usually have shorter lives.
The DNA-based formula
A 2020 study of Labrador retrievers compared DNA changes with humans and proposed human age ≈ 16 × ln(dog age) + 31. It is shown as a second estimate for dogs one year or older; it was based on one breed, so treat it as interesting rather than exact.
Why it matters
Knowing your pet's life stage helps with food choice, vaccinations and check-ups. Senior pets benefit from yearly vet visits. These are averages — health, breed and care make a big difference.
