About Age Calculator
This age calculator works out exactly how old someone is — in years, months and days — from a date of birth, counted up to today or to any date you choose.
Why not just subtract the years? Because months have different lengths and the birthday may not have come round yet this year. Someone born on 15 March 2000 is 26 years old on 5 October 2026, but the precise answer is 26 years, 6 months and 20 days: six full months from 15 March to 15 September, then the 20 days from 15 September to 5 October.
When the exact age matters
Application forms often set an age limit "as on" a particular date — a job advert, a university admission, a scholarship or a visa. Use that date instead of today to see whether you qualify. The same applies to school admission ages, retirement dates and insurance policies, where being a few days short can change the result.
Leap years and 29 February
People born on 29 February only have a real birthday every four years. In ordinary years most systems treat 28 February or 1 March as the birthday, and different organisations choose differently, so check which one a form uses if the date falls close to it.
Tips
Enter the date of birth exactly as it appears on your official documents. For a child's age in months — which doctors and vaccination schedules use — read the years and months together: 1 year and 4 months is 16 months. To find the gap between any two dates rather than an age, use the Date Difference Calculator.
