About Days Until Date
Count the days left until any date — an exam, a wedding, a holiday, a deadline or a birthday.
How the count works
The number of days until a date is the gap between today and that date. From 5 October 2026 to 25 December 2026, for example, there are 81 days: 26 left in October, all 30 of November, and 25 in December.
Does it include today or the last day?
This is the most common source of confusion. "Days until" normally doesn't count today, but it does reach the target date. If you need the number of days including both the start and the end — for a hotel stay or a leave application, say — add one. Forms that ask for a period "inclusive" of both dates mean exactly that.
Planning with a countdown
Breaking a big goal into days makes it easier to plan: with 81 days until an exam and 9 chapters to revise, you have 9 days per chapter. For work deadlines, remember that calendar days include weekends; the Working Days Calculator counts business days only.
Dates that aren't fixed
Some events move each year. Islamic dates such as Ramadan and Eid follow the lunar calendar and depend on the moon being sighted, so a countdown to them is an estimate until the date is officially confirmed. Public holidays in different countries can also shift.
To find the exact gap between two dates in years, months and days, use the Date Difference Calculator; for a live ticking clock, the Countdown Timer.
