Dimensional Weight Calculator
Enter the box size and actual weight to see which weight the courier will charge.
Why couriers charge by size
A large box of pillows takes as much space in a van or plane as a heavy box of books. Couriers therefore work out a volumetric weight — length × width × height ÷ divisor — and charge whichever is higher, the volumetric or the actual weight. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm box is 12 kg volumetric at a 5,000 divisor, so a 6 kg parcel in it is billed as 12 kg.
Which divisor?
International express services commonly use 5,000 cm³/kg; some services use 6,000 or another figure, and domestic couriers in Pakistan set their own rules. Check your courier's rate card. Most round the billable weight up to the next 0.5 kg.
Paying less
- Use the smallest box that protects the item; cut down tall boxes.
- Soft items can go in a poly mailer instead of a box.
