How overtime is worked out
The ordinary hourly rate is your monthly pay divided by your normal monthly hours — for a 48-hour week that is about 208 hours (48 × 52 ÷ 12). Overtime pay = ordinary hourly rate × overtime rate × overtime hours. On 45,000 a month, 20 hours at double rate is about 8,650.
What rate applies?
In Pakistan, the Factories Act 1934 sets overtime for covered factory workers at twice the ordinary rate, and provincial labour laws and the Shops and Establishments ordinances also limit working hours. Many office contracts set their own rate. Check your appointment letter and the law that covers your workplace; some employers include allowances in the "ordinary rate", which changes the result.
Keep your own record of overtime hours (dates and times) — it makes pay disputes much easier to resolve.
