About MP4 to WAV

Extract the audio from an MP4 video as an uncompressed WAV file — the format editing, transcription and studio software handle best.

Why WAV instead of MP3?
WAV stores the sound without lossy compression, so nothing is thrown away when you save it. That makes it the safer choice when the audio will be edited, mixed, cleaned up or run through speech-to-text software, because each later step starts from the full quality. MP3 is better for listening and sharing, where small files matter more.

File size
Uncompressed audio is large. At CD quality — 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo — WAV uses about 10.6 MB for every minute, roughly ten times an MP3 at 128 kbps. A one-hour recording is around 635 MB, so check the free space on your device before converting long videos.

Quality
WAV keeps exactly what is in the video's soundtrack. It can't improve sound that was recorded badly or already compressed inside the MP4, but it won't make it any worse.

Privacy
Your video is processed on our server only to produce the WAV file and is deleted automatically afterwards.

Common uses
Video editors who need a clean audio track, teachers preparing listening exercises, transcription of interviews and meetings, and musicians pulling a practice take from a phone video.

If you only want to listen to the audio, MP4 to MP3 gives a much smaller file; to shrink an existing WAV, use WAV to MP3.
