Convert any audio file, including WhatsApp voice notes and recordings, to the format you need, or take the sound out of a video.
Which format should I choose?
- MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo and computer. 128 kbps is fine for speech, and 192–320 kbps for music.
- M4A (AAC) sounds better than MP3 at the same size, and is the format iPhones and iTunes use.
- WAV is uncompressed, so files are very large (about 10 MB per minute). Use it when an editing app or radio station asks for it.
- FLAC keeps every detail like WAV, at about half the size. It is good for archiving music.
- OPUS and OGG are open formats. OPUS gives very small files that still sound clear for speech, and WhatsApp voice notes use it.
WhatsApp voice notes
WhatsApp voice notes are .opus (or .ogg) files. Convert them to MP3 to play them in any player or attach them to an email. From a video, the converter takes out the soundtrack. You can also use MP4 to MP3.
Good to know
- Converting a low-quality file to a higher bitrate doesn't improve how it sounds. It only makes the file bigger.
- The first audio track is converted. Album art and tags may not be copied.
