How CSV is read
- Delimiter detection: commas, semicolons (used by Excel in many European and Asian regional settings), tabs and pipes are recognised automatically. You can also choose one yourself.
- Quoted fields: values in double quotes may contain commas, line breaks and doubled quotes (
""), following the CSV standard (RFC 4180). - Header row: the first row becomes the JSON keys. Empty or repeated column names are renamed (
column_3,name_2) so that no data is lost. - Types: by default every value stays text, exactly as in the file. This keeps phone numbers, CNICs and codes such as
0300…intact. Turn on “Convert numbers and true/false” only when you want real numbers.
How JSON becomes CSV
- A list of objects becomes one row per object, with a column for every key found in any object.
- Nested objects are flattened into dot columns, for example
address.city. Lists inside a row are written as JSON text in one cell. - “Protect against spreadsheet formulas” puts a
'in front of text that starts with=,+,-or@. Spreadsheet apps then show it as text instead of running it as a formula (known as CSV injection). Normal negative numbers are not changed.
