Image to Text (OCR)
Turn the text in a photo, screenshot or scanned page into text you can copy and edit. You can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
How it works
The image is uploaded over HTTPS and turned straight, grey and sharp by ImageMagick. Then Tesseract, a widely used open-source OCR engine, reads the letters. You get the text back in a few seconds, and the image is deleted from our server immediately afterwards.
Getting the best result
- Use a sharp, well-lit photo taken straight from above. Blurry or angled photos give mistakes.
- Screenshots and scanned documents work best. Handwriting is usually not recognised well.
- Crop away everything except the text with Crop Image first. Tables and columns can come out in the wrong order.
- Always check numbers, names and amounts before you use the text. OCR can confuse similar characters such as 0/O and 1/l.
Languages
This server currently reads: English, Urdu. For a scanned PDF with many pages, use OCR PDF, which makes the whole PDF searchable.
Privacy
Images are used only to read the text and are deleted right away. We don't keep the image or the text. Avoid uploading ID cards or bank documents unless you need to.
How it works
- Upload — select or drag & drop your file.
- Process — choose any options and start; most files take a few seconds, large files, OCR and video can take a minute or two.
- Download — save the result; it is deleted from the server once downloaded (or after about an hour).
