You have the document open, it looks perfect on screen, and then the printer produces nothing — or a page with half the content missing, or a greyed-out print button. Printing problems feel random, but they come from a small set of causes, and most can be fixed in a few minutes.
Start With the Print Dialog
Before assuming the file is the problem, check the settings you are printing with:
- Printer selected — make sure it isn't set to "Save as PDF" or an old printer.
- Page range — "Current page" instead of "All" catches people out regularly.
- Scale — choose Fit or Shrink oversized pages if content is cut off.
- Paper size — A4 is standard in Pakistan; a document set to US Letter can lose its edges on A4.
- Print as image — many viewers have this under "Advanced"; it fixes a surprising number of blank-page problems.

When Printing Is Disabled
Some PDFs carry a permissions password that allows viewing but blocks printing. If it is your own document — for example, a statement from your bank that you want on paper — and you know the password, Unlock PDF can remove the restriction. If the document belongs to someone else, ask them for a printable version rather than bypassing the restriction. When the File Itself Is the Problem
A PDF with a damaged internal structure may display on screen (viewers are forgiving) but fail when sent to a printer (printers are not). Run it through Repair PDF and print the repaired copy. If that doesn't help, converting pages to images with PDF to JPG and then back with JPG to PDF produces a very simple file that almost any printer can handle — at the cost of text no longer being selectable.
Large Files and Office Printers
Shared office printers and older models can choke on huge, image-heavy PDFs:
- Print in batches of 10–20 pages instead of all at once.
- Make a lighter copy with Compress PDF using a print-friendly setting.
- Convert to grayscale if colour isn't needed — it also simplifies the file.
Printing From a Phone
- Use the phone's share menu and pick the printer or print app.
- If the printer isn't on Wi-Fi, send the file to a computer, or take it to a print shop on a USB drive.
- Print shops usually prefer a finished, single PDF — merge separate files into one first so nothing is missed.
Before a Big Print Job
- Print one test page first.
- Check that page numbers are present so pages can be re-sorted — add them with Add Page Numbers.
