SSL Checker
Enter a domain to inspect its HTTPS certificate.
What is checked
- Trusted by browsers: the certificate chains up to an authority that Chrome, Safari and Firefox trust. "No" usually means a self-signed certificate or a missing intermediate certificate on the server.
- Covers this domain: the name you entered is listed in the certificate. A certificate for www.example.com doesn't cover example.com unless both are listed. A wildcard *.example.com covers one level of subdomains.
- Expiry: free certificates (Let's Encrypt) last 90 days and should renew automatically about 30 days before. Fewer than 14 days left is flagged, because auto-renewal may have failed.
- Protocol: the TLS version used. TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are current.
The check connects to the site on port 443 from our server, and only public websites can be checked. An expired or untrusted certificate shows visitors a full-page security warning, so fix it quickly. To look up DNS records, use DNS Lookup.
