Nothing makes a submitted document look careless quite like a blank page in the middle of it. They usually appear without you noticing — until a reviewer points them out or a printer wastes paper on them.
Where Blank Pages Come From
- Word and Google Docs exports: an extra empty paragraph or page break after the final line creates a blank last page.
- Double-sided scanning: single-sided originals produce an empty back side for every sheet.
- Merging files: some documents end with a blank page that ends up in the middle after merging.
- Tables and images near the bottom of a page: an object that does not fit pushes an empty paragraph onto a new page.
How to Remove a Blank Page
- Open Remove Pages.
- Upload the PDF.
- Enter or select the blank page numbers (for example
4or2,4,6). - Download the cleaned file.
- Scroll through once more to confirm nothing important went with it.
If the document is long, check the page positions in the PDF Reader first so you remove exactly the right pages.
Removing Many Blank Pages From a Scan
A 30-sheet single-sided document scanned in duplex mode gives 60 pages, with every even page blank. Instead of removing thirty pages one by one, list them together: 2,4,6,8…. Alternatively, rescan with duplex switched off if you still have the paper.
Preventing Blank Pages in Word
- Turn on the paragraph marks (the ¶ button) and delete empty paragraphs at the end.
- Replace manual page breaks after the last section with nothing.
- If a table sits at the end of the document, reduce the spacing of the paragraph after it to 1 pt.
Fixing the source means you will not need to clean the PDF every time you export.
Why It Is Worth Removing Them
| Effect of blank pages | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Larger file | Scanned blanks still contain image data |
| Confusing page count | Reviewers wonder if something is missing |
| Wasted printing | Extra sheets and toner |
| Unprofessional look | Suggests the document was not checked |
