Why does my file show "error during processing"?
A generic processing error can have several underlying causes, so working through them systematically is faster than guessing.
Try these in order
- Get a fresh copy of the file — re-download or re-export it from its original source, in case the copy you have is subtly damaged.
- Check the file size against the tool's stated limit.
- Try a smaller test file of the same type — if that works, the issue is specific to your original file rather than the tool itself.
- Repair first if it's a PDF — run it through Repair PDF before trying your original task again.
If nothing works
The file may have an unusual internal structure the tool doesn't handle. Converting it through an intermediate format sometimes helps — for a stubborn PDF, try converting to images and back.
Isolating whether it is the file or the tool
Testing the same operation with a different, simple file of the same type is the fastest way to tell whether the problem is specific to your file or something broader — if the test file works fine, focus on what might be unusual about your original file rather than assuming a general fault.
For PDFs with a persistent processing error
Running the file through Repair PDF first, then attempting your original task on the repaired output, resolves a meaningful share of otherwise unexplained PDF processing failures.
When to try a completely different approach
If repair, re-downloading and retrying all fail for the same file, converting it through a different intermediate route — for a PDF, converting to images and back to PDF, for instance — sometimes succeeds where direct processing does not, since it rebuilds the file's structure from scratch.
