How to merge multiple PDFs into one file
Combining separate PDFs into one file is one of the most common document tasks — bank statements from different months, chapters of a report, or scanned pages from a multi-page form.
How to merge PDFs
- Open Merge PDF.
- Upload all the files you want combined.
- Drag them into the order you need — this matters, since the merge follows the order shown.
- Click merge and download the single file.
Getting the order right
If you upload files named inconsistently (Scan1.pdf, Scan10.pdf, Scan2.pdf), they may not sort the way you expect. Always check the preview order before merging rather than assuming alphabetical order matches page order.
After merging
If the combined file is large, run it through Compress PDF. If pages ended up rotated or out of order, use Organize PDF to fix them without starting over.
Common reasons to merge PDFs
People merge PDFs for very different reasons, and the goal shapes how carefully you should check the order: a set of monthly bank statements needs strict chronological order for a loan application, while combining scanned receipts for an expense claim is more forgiving.
When merging alone is not enough
If some of the source files are password-protected, unlock them first with Unlock PDF before merging — most merge tools cannot read an encrypted file. If you need to remove a cover page from one of the source PDFs before combining, use Remove Pages first.
For a one-step version of the whole merge-then-shrink process, the Merge + Compress workflow does both in a single upload.
