You download a form, try to type your name into the box, and nothing happens. That is because many PDFs are simply a picture of a paper form — they look like they have fields, but there is nothing to click into. Rather than printing, handwriting and scanning, you can type directly on top of the page.
How to Add Text to a PDF
- Open the PDF Editor.
- Upload your PDF.
- Choose the text option and click where you want to type.
- Enter your text, then adjust its size and position.
- Repeat for each field, then download the edited file.
Check the downloaded copy on another device if you can — it is the quickest way to catch a field you missed.
Making Filled Forms Look Professional
Typed text on a form looks clean only if it is aligned consistently:
- Keep one font and one size for all answers.
- Line up with the form's own lines — text floating above or below the line looks careless.
- Leave a little space from box edges so letters don't touch the borders.
- Use capital letters only where the form asks for them, such as "NAME IN BLOCK LETTERS".
- Zoom in before placing text on small boxes like dates and CNIC digits.

Adding text on top of a page is quick and reliable. Changing words that are already inside the PDF is a different job — PDFs are designed for fixed layout, not for re-flowing paragraphs — so larger edits are better done in a word processor.
Filling Forms Common in Pakistan
Admission forms, bank account forms, job applications and utility connection forms are often shared as non-fillable PDFs. A few tips:
- CNIC and phone numbers: type them exactly in the format the form shows, including dashes if boxes are grouped that way. You can check a number's format with the CNIC Validator.
- Urdu fields: if a form asks for your name in Urdu, type it in the Urdu Editor first, then copy it in — or print that page and write it by hand if the form requires handwriting.
- Signatures: add typed information first, then place your signature with Sign PDF as the last step.
Scanned Forms
If the form is a scanned image, you can still add text on top of it. The difference is that the form's own printed words are part of an image, so they cannot be selected or searched. That usually doesn't matter for filling in a form, but if you also need the document to be searchable, run it through OCR PDF first.
Before You Submit
- Read every page once more — a missing date is the most common reason forms get returned.
- Reduce the size with Compress PDF if a portal has an upload limit.
- Keep an unedited copy of the blank form in case you need to start again.
