Zakat calculator: how it works
What counts
- Cash in hand and in bank accounts
- Gold and silver
- Business inventory and receivables
- Shares and investments held for trading
What is deducted
Debts due and immediate liabilities are subtracted to reach net zakatable wealth.
The nisab
Zakat applies only if your net zakatable wealth exceeds the nisab — the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Since the silver nisab is usually lower, using it means more people qualify to pay.
The rate
2.5% of net zakatable wealth held for one full lunar year (hawl).
A note
Scholarly opinion differs on some details, particularly on which assets count and which nisab to apply. The calculator follows a common mainstream approach. For your specific circumstances, consult a qualified scholar.
