Inflation in open markets, Sunday bazaars, and roadside stalls has gone completely out of control, as prices of vegetables, fruits, and grocery items continue to rise sharply.

The increase in petrol and diesel prices has led to higher transportation costs, further driving up commodity prices.

In the markets, milk is being sold at Rs220-240 per litre, yoghurt at Rs240-250 per kg, live chicken at Rs400 per kg, and chicken meat at Rs600 per kg.

Eggs are priced at Rs316 per dozen, mutton at Rs2,400 per kg, and beef at Rs1,400 per kg.

Among pulses and grains, white chickpeas are Rs400 per kg, mash lentils Rs550, chana dal Rs330, rice Rs400, and cooking oil and ghee between Rs500 and Rs550 per kg. Sugar is being sold at Rs190 per kg.

Vegetable prices have also surged sharply with potatoes at Rs100, onions at Rs110, tomatoes at Rs350, peas at Rs380, local lemons at Rs350, coriander at Rs50 per bunch, arvi at Rs180, cucumbers at Rs100, cauliflower at Rs170, carrots at Rs250, okra at Rs180, green chilies at Rs150, bitter gourd at Rs140, eggplant at Rs100, garlic at Rs380, and ginger at Rs600 per kg.

Fruit prices have also risen steeply with apples sold at Rs200-350 per kg, bananas at Rs120-200 per dozen, kinnow and oranges at Rs200-250 per dozen, melons at Rs170 per kg, grapes at Rs300-400 per kg, sundarkhani grapes at Rs550, papaya at Rs400, coconuts at Rs450 each, peaches at Rs300-400 per kg, guavas at Rs200-300, pears at Rs250, persimmons at Rs200, and pomegranates at Rs350-450 per kg.
