A head constable from Hanjray Kalan village was killed in a road accident while on his way to perform Tarawih duty, police officials said.
Police said Head Constable Muhammad Akbar was travelling to Jamshair Chak 24 for Tarawih deployment when he was struck by a speeding vehicle near Dholan Chak 27.
He sustained critical injuries and was immediately shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Pattoki, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The news of his death cast a pall of gloom over the area, with residents mourning the loss of a dedicated officer.
Muhammad Akbar had joined the police force nearly 20 years ago as a constable and served at various police stations before being promoted to head constable.
Colleagues described him as disciplined, honest and committed, noting that he always prioritised duty and never hesitated in difficult situations.
