LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that a woman can file a khula and dower (Haq Mehr) case in the district where she resides, declaring it a matter of convenience and access to justice.

The ruling was issued by Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid in a detailed six-page judgment while deciding a petition filed by Ayesha Nasir.

According to the judgment, allowing a woman to file a case near her residence helps facilitate her legal proceedings and ensures greater ease in pursuing the matter.

During the hearing, the petitioner requested the court to transfer her case from the Family Court in Jaranwala to Lahore. She stated that her husband, Aun Abbas, had filed a case in the Family Court of Faisalabad.
