LAHORE:
The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has begun strict enforcement against vehicles operating without a “Green Sticker” in major cities, including Lahore, after the expiry of the August 31 deadline.
Punjab EPA Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh said the emission testing system was formally launched in July 2024 to regulate vehicular pollution ahead of the smog season.
He said vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2015 are being targeted in the first phase of enforcement.
Such vehicles are initially issued warning slips, which are also dispatched by post along with e-challans.
A second violation will attract fines and legal action, while repeat violations could result in impounding.
According to EPA data, over 350,000 vehicles have so far cleared emission tests and been issued Green Stickers.
The sticker is only granted to vehicles that pass detailed inspections of the engine, silencer, and catalytic converter.
Sheikh stressed that vehicles without a Green Sticker will not be permitted to enter Lahore during the smog season.
Citizens have been advised to get their vehicles tested at designated booths. The EPA will soon announce the fee for obtaining a Green Sticker.
