Two young motorcyclists were killed in a tragic traffic accident near Ayesha Manzil, within the jurisdiction of Azizabad police station.
The victims-believed to be between 25 and 30 years of age-died on the spot. Their bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. They were identified as 21-year-old Hamza and 20-year-old Aleem. Both were cousins and lived in North Karachi.
Both deceased worked in an artificial jewellery shop in Meena Bazaar.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the two boys riding a motorcycle at a high speed from Ayesha Manzil towards Karimabad. They entered the fast track from the second lane when they suddenly lost control and crashed into the road divider. Both riders sustained severe head injuries and died instantly.
According to a spokesperson for the Chhipa Foundation, traffic accidents during the holy month of Ramazan have resulted in 80 deaths and 654 injuries in various parts of the city. Among the deceased were 60 men, 12 women, and 2 girls.
So far this year, the total number of fatalities from traffic accidents in Karachi has reached 227, while 1,790 people have been injured. The deceased include 164 men, 31 women, 23 children, and nine girls.
The spokesperson further added that 76 deaths this year were caused by heavy traffic vehicles, involving 36 trailers, 21 water tankers, eight buses, seven Mazda coaches, and four dumpers.
