KHANEWAL:
Three minor siblings narrowly escaped tragedy after falling into an open sewer drain in Katchery Bazaar, just a few feet away from the municipal committee office, due to the absence of protective slabs over the drainage channel.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a family had come to the busy Katchery Bazaar for shopping. Owing to uncovered sewer drains, the children accidentally fell into the gutter.
Alert citizens present at the scene managed to pull the children out in time, preventing any loss of life.
Following the incident, residents including Ahmed, Zeeshan, Waheed, Bilal, Akmal, Khalid, Qayyum and Salman strongly criticised the district administration for what they termed flawed and negligent policies.
They said such incidents were becoming routine across the city due to missing manhole covers and uncovered sewer drains.
The residents questioned the state of civic infrastructure, pointing out that if such a dangerous situation existed right outside the municipal committee office, conditions in other parts of the city could only be worse.
The citizens demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Multan Commissioner take immediate notice of the incident and order strict action against those responsible.
