A terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Hangu on Wednesday night resulted in the martyrdom of three police officers and left two others injured.
The crossfire erupted at the Qazi Talab checkpost on Shahu Road, police and local officials reported.
According to the police, militants targeted the Qazi Talab post, prompting a strong response from the officers stationed there. District Police Officer (DPO) Khan Zeb Khan said the personnel fought bravely.
The attackers opened heavy fire, leading to a prolonged crossfire. Additional police units later arrived at the scene, with the operation supervised directly by the DPO.
Officials confirmed that three officers were martyred in the incident, including LHC Waheed Shah and Constable Abdul Samad, while another officer also lost his life.
Two policemen were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for medical care. Security forces are continuing their search operation for the attack.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the attack on a check post in Hangu. The Interior Minister paid tribute to the three policemen who were martyred in the attack and expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to their families.
Naqvi said that the sacrifices of the martyred officers will not go in vain, and these sacrifices are a clear proof of Pakistan’s unwavering resolve in the war against terrorism.
He said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police has made immense sacrifices in the war against terrorism and that the K-P Police is standing on the front line. The interior minister said that the officers who sacrificed their lives for the country are the pride of the nation.
K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life in a statement issued by the office of the press secretary to the Governor of K-P.
He paid tribute to the three police personnel who were martyred during the confrontation, acknowledging their courage and service. The governor also offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and prayed for patience and strength for the bereaved families in the wake of the tragedy.
Governor Kundi conveyed his good wishes for the swift recovery of the police personnel who sustained injuries in the attack. Emphasising the resilience and commitment of the provincial police force, he said, “Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police is bravely confronting terrorists.” Reaffirming the government’s resolve, he added, “The sacrifices of our police martyrs will not go in vain”.
