FAISALABAD:

At least three people, including two young siblings, were killed and eight others injured when roofs collapsed during heavy rain in different parts of Faisalabad on Monday.

Rescue teams pulled the bodies from the debris and handed them over to the families, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals after receiving first aid.

According to rescue officials, the incidents occurred in Chak 609 GB (Bahlik area) and Chak 564 GB (Pirangwala, Jaranwala Tehsil). In the first incident, the dilapidated roof of a house in Chak 609 GB collapsed due to continuous rainfall, killing 12-year-old Raheela and her 9-year-old brother Abu Zar on the spot. Ghulam Fatima (60), Nooran Bibi, Sameera Bibi, Hasnain, Abu Bakar, Amna Bibi, and Dua Fatima were injured and later taken to hospital by Rescue 1122 personnel. In another incident, at a wood workshop in Chak 564 GB Pirangwala, the roof of a veranda caved in while workers were repairing a wall. Ashraf (50) and Riaz (60) were buried under the rubble.

Rescue teams rushed to the site, recovered both victims, and confirmed that Ashraf had died on the spot while Riaz was provided medical aid and shifted to hospital.

Police later reached the scene and launched an inquiry. Rescue 1122 data shared with Express Tribune revealed that between January 1 and October 5, 2025, a total of 172 roof and wall collapse incidents were reported in Faisalabad.

These incidents claimed 29 lives and left 324 people injured, many with broken arms and legs.
