KOHAT: Three personnel of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and a private driver were martyred on Wednesday when militants opened fire on their vehicle at Amankot, within the jurisdiction of Gurguri Police Station in the Karak district, a senior official said.

The attackers fled towards the nearby hilly areas after the assault, prompting a large-scale search operation.

Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat, Abbas Majeed Marwat, told the media that the FC personnel were travelling in a pickup when they came under attack.

The martyrs were identified as Lance Naik Mehmood Shah, Sepoy Shahid, and Sepoy Raoof of the 272 Platoon, along with the private driver, Shahpoor. The martyrs hailed from the Tank and Lakki Marwat districts.

The senior police officer said a heavy contingent of police reached the site soon after the incident.

He added that a major search operation, led by Karak District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi, was underway in the mountainous region to track down the terrorists.

“There are reports of a firefight between the security forces and the militants, in which some terrorists are believed to have been injured. However, the operation is still ongoing. The terrorists will not be spared under any circumstances,” he pledged.

Following the incident, Kohat Division Commissioner Muatasim Billah Shah, along with Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed Jan, visited Teri Hospital. Rescue 1122 arranged ambulances and the bodies were shifted to Bannu.
