SARAI MUGHAL:
An 18-year-old youth was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon by unidentified assailants in Hanjrai Kalan, a neighbourhood of Sarai Mughal.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father Riyaz Ahmed at the Sarai Mughal police station, Mehtab had stepped out of the house while talking on the phone.
A short while later, Riyaz’s brother Mumtaz Hussain also went outside and saw Mehtab sitting on the roadside near their home with another young man, Saqlain. When Mehtab did not return home for several hours, the family grew concerned.
They later learned that Mehtab and Saqlain had been seen together in Hanjrai Kalan. Riyaz tried calling his son in the night. The phone was initially busy, but when he tried again a few minutes later, Mehtab’s phone was switched off. Mehtab did not return home during the night, which alarmed the family.
The next morning, the family set out to search for the youth. They found bloodstains on the road leading toward a nearby millet field.
Mehtab was found lying dead in the field.
