ISLAMABAD:
Incidents of theft and robbery have reportedly increased in the jurisdiction of Tarnol Police Station, with allegations that the station’s SHO is avoiding registering cases to hide poor performance.
According to details, a motorcycle belonging to private TV journalist Abrar Astori was stolen in broad daylight from the Tarnol area but remains untraced. In another incident, a citizen has been struggling for over ten days to have his robbery case registered.
Complainant Atif Hanif said he was returning from work on July 25 when two unidentified armed men stopped him at gunpoint, snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone, and fled after issuing threats. He said he immediately filed a complaint at the police station, where an officer stamped his application and asked him to return the next day to collect an FIR copy. However, he has since been told repeatedly to “come back tomorrow.”
Atif’s father told The Express Tribune his son is an educated young man employed by a private company and feared his stolen motorcycle or phone could be misused.
Locals alleged that the SHO often avoids registering cases to present a better performance record to officers.
A police spokesperson said all citizen complaints are processed in accordance with the law.
