ISLAMABAD:
A calligraphy exhibition, featuring works from abstract artist Zakria Jalal, has been specially organised during the holy month of Ramazan at the Punjab Council of the Arts.
Zakria Jalal, trained under senior calligrapher M. Azeem Iqbal, uses Kufic script on gold-leaf layered canvases and applies geometry and material depth to reflect the vastness and harmony of the universe as mentioned in the Holy Quran.
A large number of art enthusiasts attended the exhibition, along with senior officials of the Arts Council including Assistant Director Waqar Ali. Member National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb was present at the exhibition’s inauguration as chief guest and appreciated the artist’s distinctive approach in expressing his love for Islam through contemporary calligraphy. Parliamentary Secretary of Information and Culture Shazia Rizwan also attended as a special guest and commended the spiritual depth of the works.
The Director Arts Council Muhammad Shakoor thanked the guests and audience at the end of the ceremony. The exhibition will remain open for the week for the general public.
