LAHORE:
Six suspected militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) near Chhapri Dam in Mianwali.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was launched after authorities received credible intelligence about the presence of armed militants in the Chapri area, who were allegedly finalising plans to carry out attacks on police and other law enforcement agencies.
The spokesperson said CTD teams moved in to apprehend the suspects, however, the militants opened fire, prompting retaliatory action by law enforcement personnel.
“An exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the deaths of six terrorists, while eight others managed to flee the scene,” the spokesperson added.
CTD officials said a search of the area led to the recovery of a suicide jacket, six submachine guns, three hand grenades, around 200 rounds of ammunition and explosive material from the possession of the deceased militants.
