Karachi Police Chief, Azad Khan, has taken notice of an alleged video of Station House Officer (SHO) of Defence, Ghulam Nabi Afridi, circulating on social media. Following the development, the officer has been suspended with immediate effect.
To ensure a transparent and impartial inquiry, Irfan Baloch, DIG West Zone, has been appointed as the inquiry officer to investigate the matter.
The Karachi police chief stated that there is no room for unprofessional conduct within the department, and strict action would be taken under a zero-tolerance policy in such cases.
It is worth mentioning that a video showing the SHO in a side room of the Defence police station talking to several individuals recently went viral on social media.
When contacted, SHO Defence claimed that the video was old and related to his tenure at Zaman Town police station. He further claimed that he had previously taken legal action against certain extortionists posing as journalists, and that the viral video was fabricated with the help of AI, which he said could be verified through proper investigation.
