LARKANA:
Thousands of people, including a large number of women and children, participated in the Save Sindh’s Existence and Resources March in Larkana on Sunday, despite the imposition of Section 144 and what organisers termed “fake FIRs.”
Organised by Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek, the march was held in protest against the 27th Constitutional Amendment, proposed corporate farming projects, construction of new canals and dams on the Indus River, alleged plunder of Sindh’s resources, and the spread of bandit rule. Participants marched from Bakrani Road to Jinnah Bagh Chowk, where they staged a sit-in.
The march was led by Awami Tehreek Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Sindhyani Tehreek President Umra Samoon, Senior Vice President Noor Ahmed Katiar and Central General Secretary Advocate Sajid Hussain Mehesar, along with other political and social leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Vasand Thari alleged that Parliament had been reduced to a rubber stamp and that major national decisions were being taken outside the country. He criticised the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, corporate farming projects, and the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), calling them unconstitutional and harmful to Sindh. He also demanded a judicial inquiry into the supply of weapons to bandits and action against their alleged patrons.
Sindhyani Tehreek President Umra Samoon said Sindhi women had always resisted authoritarianism and would continue their struggle against what she described as constitutional dictatorship. She termed the use of Section 144 as a symbol of authoritarian rule.
