GLASGOW: Rangers ended a five-match sequence without a home win by hammering Aberdeen 4-0 on Sunday to give Barry Ferguson a first Ibrox victory as interim manager of the Glasgow giants.
Following a drab opening 45 minutes, Rangers surged ahead in the second half, with Vaclav Cerny opening the scoring in the 55th minute. Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers doubled that lead just after the hour, before substitute Hamza Igamane made 3-0 in the 70th minute. Left-back Jefte wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time.
It was a first home win for Rangers since beating Ross County on February 2, with former Light Blues captain Ferguson — installed the same month until the end of the season — overseeing the previous five games without a victory. Despite the win, second-placed Rangers are still 17 points behind already-crowned champions and bitter Glasgow rivals Celtic. “There was a lot of pressure on us today and certainly in the second half we handled that,” Ferguson told the BBC.
