MURREE:
The Murree Municipal Corporation has issued a new schedule for water charges, sparking strong backlash from residents and business owners. Although water meters are typically the property of the consumers — who purchase them independently — the corporation has now begun imposing charges of Rs2,000 for domestic meters and Rs5,000 for commercial ones.
Citizens have criticised the move, pointing out that water supply in the city is already extremely limited, especially during the summer months when residents face severe shortages. They allege that while the Municipal Corporation fails to provide adequate water, it never misses a chance to exploit consumers financially.
Sources reveal that the corporation is also planning a significant — and reportedly illegal — increase in water bills.
