HYDERABAD:
The unbridled tree cutting activity in the riverbed areas of Dadu district has provoked a protest by the citizens who gathered at Dadu-Johi road on Saturday to register their complaint. The lawyers, journalists, political activists and workers of non-governmental organisations participated in the demonstration.
Advocate Muhammad Yaqoob Rustamani claimed that an unchecked and unauthorised tree-cutting activity is underway in Kaacho. “The mafia is fearlessly chopping the wood for monetary gains and the concerned government officials are silently spectating.”
The protests alleged that more than 100 trees were cut from that area and transported through the city’s roads to different destinations.
The poet Khalil Soomro and other participants also blamed the police for not even bothering to stop the vehicles transporting trees from their district.
The protesters demanded that the Sindh government should not only stop that activity but the people involved in the illegal cutting should also be brought to the book.
