LAHORE: “The burden of population can become a huge threat to a country’s resources,” said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in her message on the World Population Day on Friday.
She added: “A rapid increase in population has become a root cause for many economic and social problems. The main reason for poverty, child labour, poor healthcare, insufficient educational resources and food scarcity is the uncontrolled expansion of population. It is feared that the available resources will be enough to meet the country’s needs just for a few decades. Pakistan can accelerate the pace of development by combating climate change and increased population. Before ensuring the provision of health and education facilities in different areas, the ratio of population and available resources should be kept in mind.”
Meanwhile, Maryam expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of innocent passengers while condemning an attack by Fitna-al-Hindustan terrorists on a bus coming from Quetta to Punjab. She offered condolences to the bereaved families.
