Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his scheduled viist to Russia in veiw of prevailing internal and regional situation.

According to a statement shared on Government of Pakistan X handle, the prime minister’s visit has high significance for advancing bilateral relations between the two countries. However, it has been deferred due to the recent tense circumstances.

“The new date of the visit will be announced later after mutual consulation,” the statement added.

Citing Pakistani Ambassador to Moscow Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti had reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz planned to visit Russia from March 3-5

Russia urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to halt cross-border attacks and resolve their differences through diplomatic means.

Russian News Agency TASS also reported PM Shehbaz’s visit to Moscow, referring to remarks by former senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.

“The visit of the prime minister of Pakistan to Russia will take place next week,” he stated while speaking at the Moscow-Islamabad media forum on February 27.

The X account of the Russian Embassy in Pakistan had quoted Putin as saying on the occasion: “We are continuing close cooperation with Pakistan. Pakistan is a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which is the region’s largest regional organisation in terms of economic, technical, and human resources. Russia-Pakistan relations are mutually beneficial in the truest sense.”
