PESHAWAR:
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, approximately five per cent of women endure violence on a daily basis, a grim trend that persisted throughout 2025, according to findings presented by the Human Rights Council of Pakistan Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter.
Only about 30 per cent of such cases are reported, leaving the remaining 70 per cent hidden due to fear, stigma, or lack of trust in the system. The province’s universities, including prominent institutions like the University of Peshawar and others, continue to see female students subjected to harassment.
These revelations came during a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on International Women’s Day, where president Azharuddin Khan, alongside central chairman Jamshid Hussain, released the organization’s 2025 human rights report focusing on violence, lawlessness, and rights violations in the province.
The report spotlighted several critical issues, including widespread harassment, violence against women, and the ongoing killings of transgender persons. It documented 258 reported cases of sexual violence against women in 2025, yet only one conviction was recorded, resulting in a provincial conviction rate of just 0.39 per cent.
