RAWALPINDI:
The Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC) has declared 31 old and densely populated villages across all six districts of the Rawalpindi Division as model villages and approved the modernisation of their municipal services.
The project will cost over Rs3.38 billion. Under the plan, all historic and congested settlements will receive upgraded water, electricity, gas, sewerage and drainage systems, along with paved streets, lanes and pathways.
Sanitation services will be improved, washroom culture promoted, and transport services provided. Dual carriage roads will be built from each village to nearby markets and towns.
New tube wells, mini-dams and water tanks will be constructed to ensure household-level drinking water supply. Low-cost convenience bazaars will also be established.
Contracts for installation and upgradation of all municipal services will be awarded through open auction on December 16.
Funds have been released, and the project will be executed under the annual divisional development programme.
The project includes 14 villages in Rawalpindi district, three in Murree, six in Attock, four each in Chakwal and Jhelum.
A sum of over Rs1.36 billion has been allocated for the upgradation of 14 villages in Rawalpindi district, while over Rs712 million has been approved for six villages in Attock.
Chakwal’s four villages will receive Rs535 million, Murree’s three historic pre-colonial villages Rs280 million, and Jhelum’s four villages Rs494 million.
