US President Donald Trump is set to be briefed by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that any expansion of Iran’s ballistic missile program poses a threat that could necessitate swift action, NBC News reported on Saturday.

Israeli officials are concerned that Iran is reconstituting nuclear enrichment sites the U.S. bombed in June, and are preparing to brief Trump for options on attacking the missile program again, the NBC report added.

According to NBC, Israeli officials are increasingly concerned that Iran is working to reconstitute nuclear enrichment sites struck by US forces in June, sources said. However, they view Tehran’s efforts to rebuild facilities linked to ballistic missile production and to repair its damaged air defence systems as a more immediate threat.

Sources said US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are expected to meet later this month at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. During the meeting, Netanyahu is likely to press Trump on what Israel sees as the growing danger posed by Iran’s expanding ballistic missile programme, arguing that it could require swift action.

According to the sources, Netanyahu is expected to contend that Iran’s activities threaten not only Israel but also regional stability and US interests. He is also likely to present options for potential US involvement or support should Israel pursue further military operations against Iran.

Asked on Thursday about a possible meeting with Netanyahu on December 29, Trump told reporters, “We haven’t set it up formally, but he’d like to see me.” Israeli officials, however, have announced that the meeting is scheduled for December 29.
