KARACHI:
A 45-year-old mother of seven, Bakhtawar, was shot and killed by her husband, Nawab, in a house in Lyari. The act was reportedly committed in the name of honour, fueled by Nawab’s suspicion that his wife was talking to someone on the phone. The suspect has been arrested.
SHO Chakiwara, Inspector Sajjad Dharijo, reported that the incident occurred during a heated scuffle inside the residence, when Nawab, in a fit of rage, used a 30-bore pistol to take his wife’s life.
Following the murder, locals, with the help of the police, acted swiftly. Nawab was arrested with the murder weapon still in his possession, while the deceased’s body was taken to the Civil Hospital.
However, as no relatives came forward to claim Bakhtawar’s body, locals took the initiative to temporarily store it in a morgue. If no one from the family files a formal complaint, police will proceed with registering a murder case against Nawab, under state prosecution.
The couple reportedly shared only a single mobile phone, which was always kept by the husband, whom neighbours described as a seemingly respectable man. The deceased worked as a helper at a private school, and leaves behind four daughters and three young sons.
