The Associated Press also reported that a missile struck a helipad within the embassy complex.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that sources indicated the damage may have been caused by a drone strike.

The attack comes amid rising tensions in the region. According to AFP, the strike occurred shortly after two Iran backed fighters were killed during attacks on Iraq’s capital.

Officials have not yet released full details about the scale of the damage or whether anyone was injured.

The embassy compound in Baghdad has previously been targeted during periods of heightened regional conflict, particularly amid tensions involving Iran backed groups in Iraq.

The latest developments come as tensions in the region continue to increase following recent military operations and retaliatory attacks.
