The Matli town of Badin like many rural and suburban areas of the province is in a grip of drug plague. The community is losing its young people to methamphetamine ice drug, heroine and locally brewed liquor.
Abdul Rehman Halepota, a prominent social figure, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, and Municipal Councillor of Matli, has announced a comprehensive campaign to curb the rising sale and use of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ice) and other narcotics in both urban and rural areas of Matli.
Speaking at a press conference, Halepota said that the unchecked spread of narcotics, particularly crystal meth, has gripped not only the present generation but also poses a grave threat to the future of the youth. He emphasized that immediate and practical steps were necessary to save society from further harm.
The PPP leader stated that he enjoys the full support of elected representatives of the constituency in this mission. He revealed that only three days earlier, a consultative meeting had been held with school administrations and the local police to devise a coordinated strategy against drug proliferation.
Halepota announced that the campaign will be formally launched at a Boys High School in Matli through an awareness seminar on the dangers of narcotics. “We will take this drive down to the ward and Union Council levels, engaging local government representatives, community elders, and concerned institutions,” he said.
He underlined that statistical data highlights the devastating impact of drugs, particularly crystal meth, which has claimed lives and destroyed families. The upcoming campaign will aim to raise awareness and mobilize public opinion against drug abuse.
