RAWALPINDI:
Police have arrested a man for allegedly subjecting his elderly parents to violence and abuse over a land dispute in the Gorsian area in Jalti police limits.
The suspect confined both the victims to a room for two days, seized their cash and jewellery, and later forced them out of their home.
A video statement of the distressed elderly couple has since surfaced, prompting Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani to take notice.
He directed Jatli SHO, Jamal Nawaz, to register a case and immediately arrest the suspect. Police have since taken the accused, identified as Muhammad Akhlaq, into custody.
The frail parents recorded a video statement describing the alleged abuse at the hands of their son. In response, CPO Hamdani ordered swift legal action.
A case was registered on the complaint of Khalida Noor, who stated that she is a housewife with one son, Muhammad Akhlaq, and a daughter who has since passed away. She alleged that her son frequently subjected her and her husband, Noor Hassan, to physical violence.
In her video statement, Noor said that her son and daughter-in-law forcibly took all their money and her late daughter’s jewellery. She alleged that her daughter-in-law stood over them with a pistol pointed at their heads. The couple were then locked in a room for two days and turned out of the house on the third day.
She further stated that they are currently staying with acquaintances, but their son continues to threaten them, demanding that the land be transferred into his wife’s name, warning that they would otherwise face further violence.
Noor added that her husband had already donated the land for the construction of a mosque, which had angered their son. She accused him of severe misconduct, including assault, unlawful confinement, and issuing threats to force the transfer of property. She appealed to authorities for legal action and justice.
Saddar SP Anam Sher confirmed that a case has been registered and the accused, Muhammad Akhlaq, has been arrested. She described the mistreatment of elderly parents as deeply regrettable and assured that all legal requirements would be fulfilled to ensure the suspect is brought to justice.
