KARACHI:

A four-day Women’s Night Cricket Tournament was held in the metropolis during the holy month of Ramazan, with 15 teams and around 150 amateur and professional women cricketers showcasing their talent at the Kachhi Memon Ground in Bahadurabad.

The tourney, organised under the banner of Khelon Cricket, drew an enthusiastic crowd as spectators enjoyed matches featuring impressive batting and disciplined bowling performances by the players.

In the final, Malir Women Markhors scored 72 runs and defeated Athletics Club by six runs to clinch the title. The winning team received a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs150,000, while the runner-up team was awarded Rs75,000.

Yusra Aamir was named Player of the Tournament and also received the Best Batter award. Shabnam Hayat was declared Best Wicketkeeper, while Aiman Anwar was adjudged Best Bowler.

Prizes were distributed among the winning teams and outstanding players during the closing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the driving force behind the event, Hadeel Ubaid Chanaye, said the tournament, which started in 2016 with only four teams, has grown significantly over the years and now provides an important platform for talented women cricketers.

She added that encouragement from parents and guardians plays a vital role in boosting the confidence of female players. She expressed hope that efforts would be made in the future to organise the event at the national level so that women cricketers from across the country could get opportunities to showcase their abilities.
