KARACHI:
Lyari residents are demanding answers from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on a long-standing promise to “turn Lyari into Paris,” as the area continues to face infrastructure and basic service challenges.
Addressing a public gathering in Musa Lane, Lyari, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan criticised the PPP for failing to provide relief to the people of Lyari despite receiving billions of rupees. He highlighted that while Jamaat-e-Islami achieves record development work in its nine towns despite limited resources, the ruling party has neglected Karachi’s citizens, the largest taxpayers of the country.
Monem Zafar Khan further criticised the government’s fuel policies, saying that while global oil prices fell, the authorities increased petrol prices in Karachi, placing a “petrol bomb” on citizens already burdened by rising costs. He called on the government to immediately reduce petrol prices, describing the situation as “oppression of the people” during wartime conditions.
