KARACHI:

Another man who had married for love was shot dead in Keamari’s Machhar Colony when unidentified assailants entered his home and opened fire, fatally wounding him.

The woman’s relatives did not kill her and targeted only the man. The victim had married three months ago, and police say his in-laws disapproved of the union.

According to police, the incident occurred near Noor Salam Chowk in Machhar Colony, where gunmen broke into the house and shot 22-year-old Ahmed, son of Noor Hakeem, while he was sleeping. Hearing the gunshots, his father rushed from another room and saw the attackers fleeing, while his son lay critically injured. Ahmed was taken to Civil Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A single bullet hit proved fatal.

Docks Police Station duty officer Waseem said that the woman remained unharmed in the incident and only Ahmed was killed.

Waseem said Ahmed and his father worked in local TV and internet cable services. Ahmed’s father lodged a murder case against four close relatives of the bride, naming them as suspects. Police have arrested one accused, Asghar, while raids are ongoing to find the others.

Following the killing, Ahmed’s family, relatives, and neighbours staged a protest at Jinnah Bridge, placing the body on the road and demanding the arrest of the remaining suspects. The protest severely disrupted traffic on Netty Jetty Road, Mauripur Road, and nearby routes, causing long tailbacks and hardship for commuters. Police eventually dispersed the protesters and restored traffic flow after considerable effort.
